Curator of the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum,
Jim's professional interests center on horticulture and botany. As a
horticulturist, he has introduced several Great Plains wildflowers into
commercial
nursery production. As a botanist, he has conducted studies of imperiled plants
for TheNature Conservancy and the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service. He is actively involved in the American Public Gardens
Association.
Jim enjoys writing about plants, and has
published articles in American Gardener,American Horticulturist, American
Nurseryman,
Horticulture, NEBRASKAland, Perennial Plants, Plant Conservation, and Wyoming
Wildlife magazines. He contributed two chapters to Rock Garden Plants of North
America, published by Timber Press in 1996, and is currently writing a book on
the genus Phlox, also for Timber Press.
Jim grew up in Kansas City. He has a BS degree in biology from Central Missouri
State University
and a MS in Plant and Soil Science from Southern Illinois University. He and his
wife Lynn live in Lincoln, Nebraska.
